Pantry School Drive

Our Pantry is asking for school supplies:   pencils, pens, erasers, notebook paper, folders, etc. to fill 75 backpacks.

We also ask for help with backpacks.   We need 75 of them.  Last year we found a place where we got them for $5 each.  Even at $5, that is over $350 alone for bags.  If anyone wants to contribute to the book bag fund, you just need to mark it for Pantry-book bag fund, or give cash to Jan or Julie Kurtz or Terry Snyder.  We need the contributions by August 10 so we have time to get any extra supplies that we need.

Distribution is the 4th Saturday (the 23rd).     Come on Friday (the 22nd) at 6 pm to help pack!  Thanks so much for all your donations!

Women's “Brown Bag Lunch”

We will meet again on Saturday, August 16 at noon in the church library. Kathy Craddock will lead the group, and her topic is "The unexpected… how it changes us". So, come and get to know some of the other ladies in your church family.

Sunday Evening Golf League

Our last evening of golf is on Sunday, August 10th at Brookledge Golf Course.  We will start 1 hour early this week (at 4:00pm) so that we can have our “end of the year cookout” and awards ceremony at the Kemmerlines’ House (2995 Telber Ct, Stow).  Golfers, spouses and friends are invited.

JumpStart … A New Sunday Morning Option for the Fall

Beginning September 7 and running through November 23 during the Education Hour, Pastor Ross Slaughter will begin a new discussion group that will help him "jump start" his Sunday morning message for the following week. He is beginning a new series of sermons beginning September 14 under the general title: "Where Do We Go From Here?"

In this ten-message series, "Where Do We Go From Here?", Pastor Ross will address various issues regarding our eternal destiny from the pages of the Bible. This series comes out of dealing with the many questions he has fielded throughout his ministry about heaven and the resurrection, recognizing that many genuinely want clarity about where human life is leading them and what God has to say about it. The JumpStart class gives you the opportunity to engage in a discussion prior to the sermon on the various subjects covered and it will help Pastor Ross adjust his content to make the messages right on target.

This class is open to newcomers, individuals not currently involved with a class, and to any of the classes that want to take a "break from the usual." Be a part of this unique opportunity that ties the Education Hour with the Worship Hour and explore your own faith in a fresh and dynamic way.

DMA

Our Fall meeting will be held on September 18th.  Our speaker for the afternoon is Christine Gilley.  She will be speaking on "Predatory Lending Practices".  This is a subject we should all be aware of.  Covered dish lunch at noon and speaker at 1:00.  Come out for lots of good food and fellowship

Got Books?

Tuesday, November 4, Election Day, is an important day for our country.  It’s also the day our senior high youth are having a book sale in the resource library.   If you have books to donate, please put them in the Senior High room in the basement, and thank you very much for your help.  (Sharon Pulley)

Prayer Lab

Experience real prayer connection with others … with God

On Tuesday evenings you have the opportunity to come to the church sanctuary to pray and to be prayed for. The church will be open to you from 7:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. on a regular basis on Tuesday evenings for you. This is also an opportunity for you to invite someone you know who needs prayer to come as well.

The format is Spirit led … which means that no two Prayer Labs will be alike. We will be responding personally to the needs of those who come, praying the wisdom, compassion and power of God for all who participate. Our vision with this prayer opportunity is to give people a more intimate time with God that is prayer-intensive to see needs met and lives changed … a ministry to those within the church family as well as to the community.

It is all a part of our larger church vision to see all people become all they can be in Jesus Christ.

Recycling Program

We have a container by the office copier for waste paper.  The paper is taken to one of the local school recycle bins.  Everyone in the community is encouraged to participate in the recycling program begun by Cuyahoga Falls schools with Abitibi Recycling Corp.  Waste paper can be deposited in the recycling bins at any of the public school buildings in Cuyahoga Falls.  This program is set up to take clean and dry newspapers, magazines, catalogs, office and school papers, and mail.

Multimedia Volunteers

We will be setting up the media operator schedule for the next year. Operators are scheduled for a month at a time, and we offer on-the-job-training! If you are interested, please e-mail Kirk Worcester, kirk@neo.rr.com.

Are you upgrading?

Upgrading what?  Well, your computer of course.  As we all are aware, computers become outdated very quickly.  We have been very appreciative of the computers we have in Bible Bytes, but they are becoming quickly outdated for the software we want to use.  If you have a computer(s) with the following requirements (Or Better!), that you are no longer using, please consider donating it to the church.

The minimum we ask for is: 600 MHz Pentium or Athlon processor, Windows 98 operating system, 6 GB hard drive, 128 MB RAM.  We would also need any Windows and system restore disks/CDs that go with the computer.

If you have one to donate, contact Jon Loresch or Marilyn Stroble.

Pantry

July and August packing is open for volunteers, please consider helping.  The Pantry packing schedule is posted in the office hallway.  If anyone can help during any of the months that are open, please contact Janice Kurtz, memawjmk@aol.com.   Thank you!

Amazement Park Offering

A reminder to parents that the children's offering goes to support a child through the Christian Children's Fund.  We support Mbaye Sene from Senegal, and have been his sponsors for a year now. Mbaye lives with 11 other family members in a two room house with no electricity nor running water.  He goes to primary school and enjoys playing soccer with his mates.  His father is a farmer and his mother is an unskilled housewife. The children send letters to him, as well as receive letters, pictures and drawings from him.  Everyone is excited when we receive mail from him.  For us to continue to support Mbaye, the children need to bring an offering in on a regular basis.  This has been a wonderful experience for the students as well as the Amazement Park leaders.

What Do Deacons Do?

The main function of the Deacons is to take care of those who are ill or otherwise shut-in and are unable to attend services at the church as well as compassion for those who are grieving. The Deacons have six committees: Calling and Caring, Compassion, Homebound, Hospital, Pantry and Prayer Group. During the year, the Deacons perform special functions like making spring decorations and Christmas cheer bags for those on the shut-in list as well as delivering Easter and Christmas flowers. They also gather toiletry items for Hope Totes at Haven of Rest and pack these items five times a year to be distributed to the homeless population in the greater Akron area.  .

Helping Hands

Did you know we have twenty-one "Helping Hands" volunteers?

These folks have signed up for one or more of the following activities:  reading, letter writing, minor household chores, yard work, transportation, pantry delivery to home-bound, babysitting, elder care, computer help, tax preparation, sewing, run errands, packing, meal prep during rehab,& short term pet care.

We also help by finding youth to mow lawns (for pay) and to identify solutions for those who need permanent or regular household cares.

Want to join in this ministry to our congregation?  Call Joanne Shaw at 330-920-8330 to sign up or stop into the ADVENTURERS classroom on Sunday morning.

Need help.... call the same number.

Used Ink Cartridges News

For those who are supporting the senior highs with their used ink cartridges, we ask that you DO NOT put them in plastic bags.  That ruins them, and we then do not receive any money for them.  Also, if you have the box for the laser cartridges, we would appreciate that you put the old cartridges in them.  If not, that is fine.  We thank you for your support.  Contact-Marilyn Stroble, dce@cfupc.org.
