U. P. C. Food Pantry & Angel Tree Ministry
Our food pantry offers a hand up….NOT a hand out to those in need. We serve an average of sixty (60) families each month, including church members, church member referrals and community referrals. We strive to provide sufficient food for 3 meals for 5 days for the family, including meat, vegetables, pasta, cereal, dairy products, etc., and also providing cleaning and personal care products. During the holidays, we also take on additional referrals from the community for Holiday Baskets, providing the entire holiday meal for the family.
In conjunction the with Membership Committee, we have the Christmas Angel Tree where children of our pantry families can be selected to assist the family with a Christmas gift for a child under 18.
The pantry is funded through direct donations from our church members, organizations as well as outside sources. The majority of the food we distribute comes from the Akron Canton Regional Food Bank for a very nominal cost. We also have the “Pantry Item of the Month” that is highlighted in our Weekly Voice and church members bring in those items to help stock our shelves.
The pantry is open for community and church member referrals on the 3rd or 4th Saturday of each month from 9am to 11am as per the schedules set up at the beginning of each year. We attempt to distribute on the Saturday before any holiday. Distribution is lengthened to 12 noon for Thanksgiving and Christmas due to the additional Holiday Basket distributions.
Pantry packing is done the Friday night before each scheduled monthly distribution. Different groups assist as well as individual church members who faithfully show up to help pack the food.
It takes many hands to make this Mission work. Thanks to everyone who helps!
